ELL
OVERVIEW
OVERVIEW:
At E-STEM, our students come with a diverse set of skills and perspectives. Our goal is to tap into these assets and deliver equitable services to our English learners (ELs) by providing access to grade-level content and opportunities to develop academic language. We pay particular attention to students' growth in the four language modalities of reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
The teachers and staff in the Multilingual Learner (MLL) Department work collaboratively to support EL students in strengthening their academic English. Their goal is to help students improve their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Additionally, MLL teachers advocate for EL students and their families.
MLL teachers and counselors coordinate to ensure students are placed in the appropriate classes to develop the academic English skills necessary for staying on track toward graduation. Bilingual staff members sometimes serve as educational assistants, tutors, and interpreters for students and their families.
COLLABORATION:
MLL staff work together and co-teach in sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade Science classrooms.
